Drama Club! - I.I.C.A.N.A. 80º Anniversary Contest

The Drama Club! is promoting literature. We think with literature, writing and reading, we can improve our critical thinking and we can open our minds. In order to promote this, the Drama Club! and I.I.C.A.N.A. opened a contest where you can express yourself and show your talent. It is a great oportunity to improve your writing skills and critical thinking. We think with literature we can make an impact and change the world. The power of the words are better than swords and we have to take advantage of that.

If you are interested in participating, you have to be a student or a graduate student of I.I.C.A.N.A. You have to be 15 years old or older. You have to write a short story in English or in Spanish. You have to write about The Mind and the story should not be more than 3 pages A4. It has to be written with Times New Roman 12 and it has to have 1.5 Line Spacing and Margin 2 cm. The story should be signed with a pseudonim.

You have to send an e-mail with your story to: drama.club.cba@gmail.com. Furthermore, you have to write in the e-mail your real name, age and course you are attending at I.I.C.A.N.A. and the subject has to be Name, Drama Club! Contest. If you can't send an e-mail, you can give a copy of your story to Guillermo Rena at the TRC of I.I.C.A.N.A. You have time to send the e-mail untill Friday October 28th at 2.30 p.m.

On Friday October 28th at 5 p.m., one of the jury, Gustavo Palomeque, who is a great writer, will give us a great class about literature and you are all invited to attend.

The prizes are:

I.I.C.A.N.A.'s 80º anniversary

On September 16th, I.I.C.A.N.A.celebrated their 80º Anniversary in Jockey Club Cordoba. The Drama Club was invited to attend the celebration. It was a great night and we were glad to be there, it was such a great opportunity to share some time with the whole of the IICANA community! Josua was the one in charge to present Eleonora Salas, Academic Director of I.I.C.A.N.A, with a souvenir from all of our members.

Giving birth is a miracle, and yesterday, one of the members of our Drama Club was the trigger of that miracle. Agus Tosco gave birth to a perfectly healthy 3.8Kg baby boy named Gaspar. Welcome Gaspar to our Family!!!! We've been waiting for you for 9 months, and now we can say we have a new member!!! We want to congratulate Gaspar and his parents, and send our best wishes to them.

"It was 2005 and a group of students started to attend extra classes on Fridays, guided by one of the most outstanding teachers, the teens learned the Abc's of phonetics."

This Friday we, the members of The Drama Club, will meet at IICANA at 9.30 p.m because it is the last Friday before holidays. This meeting is very special because every person who was part of this fantastic group will be together and will share everythig. This will be a big celebration, former members and current members will meet in one place at the same time to have a great night. We will share what The Drama Club has taught us through all these years and most importantly, we will have fun.
This is the first time The Drama Club will make such a big celebration and we all want to share this. Everybody who is part of this is invited to come and celebrate!
So, see you this Friday and get prepared to roll out the red carpet!

Body Expression Comission

Last Friday we started with the BEC activities. Our main purpose, in this comission, is for you to activate you senses and perception, not only in a physical way but also mentally. We want you to have a space to conect with yourselves which is a very important thing for actors. We want you to feel confortable and spark your creativity by feeling free of expressing yourselves.We want more sensitive students, and by sensitive we don't mean crying babies, we mean people who can feel in many ways as possible and can value things that others can't. It's crucial for actors/actresses to be sensitive and creative so they can comunicate with the audience, and that's what we are trying to do, to give you the chance to send a message with your body and activate our audience senses as well.

Remember next friday we continue with the comission activities and remember to bring a tennis ball.

On April 1st we created the new commissions for this year, which are designed to improve The Drama Club performance. The different groups will not only work on specific areas, but also interact among themselves. We'll have five commissions in total, though others may be added to meet any specific needs:

1) Writing: Josua, Andrew and Guille.

2) English: Emi, Tom and Paula.

3) Bodily Expression: Ampi, Cande and Felicitas.

4) Social events: Agus Cuozzo, Flor and Agus Tosco.

5) Music: Lucas and Mati.

Turning Point - End of Year 2010

Turning Point was the latest play The Drama Club performed. It was presented at the IICANA End-of-the-Year Ceremony, in December 2010. It was written and directed by Josua Daniele and Andrés Prado. The focus of the play, based on a true story, is to raise awareness about traffic accidents. It's a dramatic comedy which has a moral on the importance of driving safe and caring about one's and others' lives. "When we drive, we have to be responsible because every decision we make can be a turning point in our and others' lives. We have to convince other people to do the same". When the play finished, the members of The Drama Club handed in to the audience some brochures including tips on safe driving and information about the play.
This time, we were lucky enough to be assisted by many DC members who helped working on the scenography, multimedia and illumination. They made our performance much easier and the play turned out perfect. The audience really liked it because it was fun and the ending had them reflecting upon responsibility.
Tom (Tom), Cande (Michelle), Lucas (Jack), Agus Tosco (Mother), Ampi (Juliet), Josi (Josh), Agus Cuozzo (Greg) and Rocío (Little sister) were the performers. We want to thank Emi who was in charge of the multimedia and illumination, Guille who helped us with the script and replaced the actors who weren't able to attend to some rehearsals; Maru, who designed and printed the brochures, the people who worked on the scenography and those who performed as extras.
Finally, we want to mention that, on December 2nd, some of the members of The Drama Club attended the presentation of Viggo Mortensen's Book at Facultad de Ciencias Exactas, Físicas y Naturales. After getting his autograph, we handed in a copy of the Turning Point script to him. Then, on December 26th, the actor sent an e-mail to Josi, in which he congratulated the whole group for presenting the play.

Drama Club CAMP! 2010

On September 18 we went to Ascochinga.The camp was awesome. We played a lot of games, we practiced intonation, shot some scenes for the play "Turning Point". But that was not all! We had a great time at the swimming pool, played hide-and-seek at night and also had a pool competition. We really enjoyed it. On Saturday night we enjoyed a great activity, based on trying to find a meaning for the name Ascochinga and then present it in a sketch. It was very interesting! Below this you will find some words that Andrew prepared for the activity:

What's in a name, dear friends? Can a name tell everything there is to know about you? Could each of our names reflect our true essence?

Does Maru stand for patience and loyalty? or, Tom for creativity and coolness? or, Emiliano for generosity, intelligence and honesty? or, Rocío for pureness and cuteness?

I'm not sure about that. I guess a name is just a name. And it's nothing without you guys. Without your spirit and you heart!

Ascochinga means nothing but STRAY DOG! Not cool? Come on! Clementina is a stray dog!

(Almost) For a day and a half, the words stray and dog took a whole lot more meaning for us!

Those two words became a beautiful place! And a little dog, that had the best weekend in a long time!

Like Clementina, there are lots of stray dogs that need a little bit of what we got. What you got! Teenagers that don't have a chance to express themselves, young people (and not so young) who have forgotten that a name means nothing, unless it's filled with a heart and a frienship! So I want to thank God and the universe, for giving us the opportunity to see and understand that the DC tonight, here in this moment is Maru, Emi, Ampi, Lucas, Feli, Roci, Josi, Tom, Cande, Agus, Guille, Andrew, Lu, Vi, Guada and Agus Cuozzo who called and Mati.

And all the good things behind each of these names!!

Hope you had a great time despite minor misunderstandings. Hope you have learned something from Andrew's words and all the things we lived during the camp.

8th Annual Conference on Applied Drama

On February 25th, 26th and 27th, a group of Drama Club members attended the 8th Annual Conference on Applied Drama, organized by The Buenos Aires Playes (Celia Zubiri's Company). The objective of the meeting was to train English Teachers to practice this language in a different context touched by the magic of theatre. There were many presentations and workshops given by specialists who provided us with classroom activities.

We want to thank Eleonora Salas for her constant support, Raul Hillar for helping us finance this trip, Ivanna Breglia for allowing us to borrow her apartment for a few days (Iva, you rock!!!), Laura Marquez, Maru's and Ampi's parents, and all the members of the Drama Club because none of this would have been possible without your encouragement.

Last Saturday we celebrated Andrew's 32º birthday. We went to the cinema and watched "Invictus" the new movie about Mandela's government after he was released from jail.
After that we went to Andrew's house were we had lunch and enjoyed the pool.
We would like to thank Andrew for all the things he had done for the Drama Club during these years.
And also we would like to wish him the best for this new year that will be full of activities for the group.

New Year Resolutions

Dear Drama Club members: As you might know, the end of the year is the time chosen by many people to make resolutions for the next year. These resolutions act as a kind of guidance to help us get where we want to go and they should reflect the essence of a project or a plan. That's why I think we should all spend some time thinking about what we want for the following year, and what part will our club play in those goals. I can only share a couple of my own resolutions. First, I want the Drama Club to be an open entity that will receive important visits during the year. I will do everything in my power to make sure you meet important people who can help you grow as artists. And second, I want to repeat some nice experiences we had this year and add some new ones that can help us get to know each other a little bit more. Anyway, I'm going to give my very best to try to make next year the best we've had. Below I'm sharing with you a poem that inspires me when I feel like the world is on my shoulders... Camp in Carlos Paz

Last Saturday at 8:30 am, 15 members of the Drama Club (listed below) were gathering at the Bus Station.

Destination: Pablo’s house in Carlos Paz.

Once or twice a year, the Drama Club organizes a camp, in which we spend time together, we share experiences and do a thousand of different activities. This time, Pablo made all the arrangements to let the whole Drama Club use his house and have such a good moment. After walking to the house (not so far from Carlos Paz Bus Station), we started what we would consider then as one of the greatest weekends (like the ones we had in the previous years). As always, the house chores where done by every member so each one of us were assigned a task.

After lunch, some people were playing table tennis, some others took a nap and some girls were sunbathing. This last situation was the trigger for all of us to take a decision: went to the river. At the beginning we thought we wouldn’t find any water, but we did. And in fact, we could dip in the water and have so much fun. Water fights, races, and splashes were some of the things we did there, making it a great afternoon.

The dinner was made by Andrew, who prepared burgers and spaghetti. Then, we had a movie time. All the movies Tomás brought were scary movies. However, the first one wasn´t actually scary (not even Andrew got scared!!! Haha). But the second one was. After the movies session, some went to sleep, and some stayed awake, playing games and chatting.

The following day, we started having breakfast at 9, and when we finished, we had some group activities and we played Treasure Hunt, which was a game prepared by Ampi and Maru.

The lunch for Sunday was made by a couple of people. Guille was in charge of the sausages; Josua, Cande, Ampi and I (Emi) prepared a fruit salad. Cande and I made the smashed potatoes (which Guille started); Ampi made the hamburgers and Josua was in charge of the plates.

As all can see, we did plenty of activities, but there are some which are never missed. We always take a little time to think of the good things that these meetings involve, and we always find the right time to say beautiful things. We seize every minute we spend together, and we thank for that. So we realize that everything we experience as a group is very valuable. And thanks to these camps, we understand we are all important, and everyone has something different to give and share.

So I just want to say Thank You All for such an unforgettable weekend. And thanks to the ones who couldn’t go as well.

Halloween Party

El viernes 30 de Octubre de 2009 se llevó a cabo la fiesta de halloween, donde el Drama Club organizo el bufet y algunos de los juegos. Andrés Prado (foto 1) participó en uno de los juegos el cual consistía en tratar de mojarlo (el día estaba ideal para este juego).Emiliano Daniele participó en el juego de la memoria, donde los chicos daban vuleta las cartas hasta encontrar el par. Candela Neira e Ignacio Guillen particparon en el juego llamado "Feed the Jack-O'-Lantern"(alimenta a la calabaza) donde los chicos tiraban pelotitas intentando anotar en la boca de la Jack-O'-Lantern. En la posta llamada "Haunted House" (la Casa Embrujada) participaron Natalia Bertoli quien guiaba a los chicos hasta el pasillo oscuro, Amparo Alvarez (foto 2) quien actuaba de bruja anfitriona y los hacia pasar el reto de reconocer a través del tacto diferentes cosas como sangre y otras cosas pegajosas, luego que los chicos adivinaran la bruja los hacia dirigirse a la salida donde los esperaban Pablo Esmoriz (foto 3) disfrazado de un muerto en vida, Josua Daniele disfrazado de "Jason" (personaje de "Viernes 13") y Lucas Gonzales disfrazado de una versión más escalofriante del Jorobado de Notre Dame.Otro juego en el que participó Lucía Ibarra consistía en tomar una manzana con la boca que se encontraba dentro de un recipiente lleno con agua.

En el bufet participaron Andrés Prado, Estefania Ceballos, María Eugenia Aparicio entre otros.Se ofrecían diferentes variedades de jugos y tortas hechas por los mismos miembros del club .

Al finalizar la jornada los integrantes del Drama Club prepararon todo para cenar y disfrutar de la película de terror "Rec" donde el profesor Andrés demostró tener cierta "debilidad" por este tipo de películas.

Homenaje a Nuestros Abuelos

El día Viernes 4 de Septiembre se llevó a cabo el Homenaje a Nuestros Abuelos "Viejos son los Trapos". El motivo de esta presentación fue dedicarles a nuestros abuelos por los menos un pequeño show para mostrarles cuánto los apreciamos. Decidimos hacer esto ya que muy pocas veces les devolvemos a ellos todos lo que nos dan día a día.

La presentación comenzó a las 18:30 con la muestra de fotografías de nuestros abuelos,de la cual estaba a cargo nuestra fotógrafa oficial María Eugenia Aparicio.

Luego nuestros abuelos disfrutaron de la música da la banda "Loca Ella" integrada por Agustina Tosco (voz), Gamaliel Zezular (guitarra), Matías Rostagno (guitarra) y Rodrigo Bacchini (batería).

Terminado el show de la banda de Agustina, nuestro director Andrés Prado recitó una canción escrita por el mismo y Rocío López.

También se presentó un sketch escrito y dirigido por María Sol Coudray, en el cual actuaron: Victoria Ruiz Luques, Agustín Cuozzo, Pablo Esmoriz y María Sol Coudray.En este sketch se mostraban las diferencias generacionales entre nosotros los adolescentes de hoy y nuestros abuelos, haciendo hincapié en las relaciones de pareja.

Esto fue seguido por una presentación multimedia elaborada por Rocío López -nuestra integrante mas jóven- presentada por Emiliano Daniele. La proyección contaba con fotos de abuelos y frases características de ellos.

Más tarde se presentó una mini-obra escrita y dirigida por Josua Daniele. En ella se mostraba cómo un abuelo es llamado "abuelo" por todos sus conocidos y seres queridos, lo cual le molestaba en cierta forma. En esta obra su nieta cumple un rol muy importante ya que es ella quien defiende y entiende la situación de su abuelo.En esta obra actuaron: Ignacio Guillén, Lucas González, Lucía Ibarra, Pablo Esmoriz y Josua Daniele.

Al final se hizo la entrega de diplomas a los abuelos, como reconocimiento a su amor incondicional, comprensión y apoyo a cargo de sus respectivos nietos, también recibieron la/s fotografías que habían sido exhibidas al comienzo de la presentación.

Queremos agradecerles a todos por este increíble homenaje.

Drama Club! in Villa Dolores

The Drama Club travelled to Villa Dolores on August 14 to present a play. The group was welcomed by Marcos Mendelson, who is an English teacher and runs “Cambridge” Institute and the bilingual school “El Manantial”.

The team presented their most successful play: Cinderella” (which had been performed on the 2008 I.I.C.A.N.A.’s End of Year Ceremony) written by Amparo Alvarez, Josua Daniele and Andres Prado. “Cinderella” was put on by Amparo Alvarez, Emiliano Daniele, Josua Daniele, Agustín Cuozzo, Victoria Ruiz Luques, María Sol Coudray, Agustina Tosco, Guillermo Rena, Rocío López and Florencia Mirolo.

Moreover, Andres Prado, Maria Eugenia Aparicio (photographer, lights and music) and Adriana Olarte (one of the member’s mother) travelled with the group.

On this special day the Drama Club gave two performances, which were seen by students from the institutes stated before.

To conclude, the team would like to thank Marcos Mendelson, Andrés Prado, Guillermo Rena, Adriana Olarte and Eleonora Salas for their support.

Dear drama club members: Ten days ago, I attended to the annual conference on applied drama held in Buenos Aires, and I wanted to share with you some words about it. I can say that I learned we are on the right track, since the spirit of friendship that I could breath there is the same I can feel everytime I'm around you. I will also say that I grew as a director, and as a teacher as well. I really needed to live an experience like the one I had in B.A to be able to teach new things afterwards. And thanks to Eleonora and Raul, I was able to do it. I hope I can pass on what Celia and Pat and Gabriel and all the other teachers there taught me. May this be a great start for a great year!!!! Queridos miembros del Drama Club:

Qué les puedo decir que no les haya dicho ya durante el año? La verdad es que hablo tanto que no se que puedo agregar... pero voy a intentar. Tanto Laura como yo creemos que nuestras acciones nos definen como personas. Aquellas cosas a las cuales yo dedico mi tiempo, mi energía, mi corazón terminan moldeando nuestra personalidad y forma de ser. El hecho de que ustedes hayan decidido hacer crecer este espacio que es el club de teatro me da personalmente una gran satisfacción y por sobre todas las cosas una gran tranquilidad. Porque se que en este mundo donde el individualismo parece reinar, ustedes tienen un lugar adonde pueden crear algo diferente...y mostrarlo. Y no es poca cosa. No saben cuantos abrazos, felicitaciones he recibido en este tiempo-aún de gente que me sorprendió- que nos felicitó emocionada por la obra que hicimos. Espero poder transmitirles en este mail algo de toda esa energia que esa gente me dio. Y decirles que me considero una persona muy afortunada por poder contarlos entre mis amigos. Porque eso es lo que son para mi.
